Delhi Daredevils Must Aim To Bolster Their Middle Order for Success

The player auctions for the Indian Premier League 2017 will take place in the 20th of February. Of all the franchises in the tournament, Delhi Daredevils have the second-highest capacity for buying players thanks to a purse totaling Rs. 23.1 crore. Only Kings XI Punjab has more. Delhi Daredevils need to pay a lot of attention during this year’s auction if they are to get good results. It is all the more important as all the contracts expire next year.

Delhi Daredevils and Kings XI Punjab do have a few similarities. Apart from a sizeable purse, both teams have suffered from a shortage of players who can step up at the right moment. The Daredevils have never managed to overcome the semi-final stage even though they reached the spot thrice.

Currently, they have managed to retain 18 players out of which 5 are foreigners. The squad does have balance in certain areas. They easily have one of the most lethal attacking opener combinations in the form of Quinton de Kock and Rishabh Pant. The team also has reliable batsmen in the top order in Shreyas Iyer, Karun Nair and Sam Billings.

Ben Stokes will easily be the hottest player in the auction and can prove to be an invaluable addition to the Daredevils. After all, the middle order is one area which they need to look into. They may also think about buying a seamer who can back up Shami such as Mitchell Johnson.

The Delhi Daredevils desperately need some changes to boost their fortunes. As such, they need to concentrate on making the most of the auction.
