Players with Exorbitant Base Prices in IPL Auction
In the players’ auction for the 10th edition of the Indian Premier League, no less than 7 players have set their base price at Rs. 2 crore. The auction itself is going to take place on the 20th of February in Bengaluru were 351 players will be auctioned off. 76 players can be bought at most at the auction out of which a maximum of 28 can be foreign players.
2 crore is the highest base price that a player can choose for himself during the action. In this price bracket are Ben Stokes, Chris Woakes and Eoin Morgan from England. There are also Pat Cummins and Mitchell Johnson, both fast bowlers from Australia. Angelo Mathews, captain of the Sri Lanka squad, has also chosen to enter the auction at this level. Rounding up the list is Ishant Sharma of India.
Woakes, Morgan and Stokes were all important members of the English team in the 2016 World T20 even though they ended up losing to West Indies in the finals. As for Mathews, he has played in the past for the Delhi Daredevils, the former Pune Warriors India and Kolkata Knight Riders.
Mitchell Johnson is sure to raise a few eyebrows. He has already started his retirement from international cricket. Although there are no doubts about his IPL experience, the base price seems a little too high. Ishant Sharma has a lot to prove and his base price of 2 crore may seem a lot as well. He previously played for the Rising Pune Supergiants.
