Eoin Morgan Surprised at Being Chosen at IPL Auction
England captain, Eoin Morgan has expressed his surprise at being selected in the IPL auction. He was not expecting to be selected considering that he would not be available for all the matches. Morgan has been chosen to captain England in the 2-match ODI series in Ireland.
He mentioned that although it was believed that he would miss a lot in the IPL, the fact is that he will only be missing on 2 matches out of the 14 that each team is certain to play.
As for his decision to go back for the Ireland ODIs, Morgan said that the decision was a collective one. England might not put forward a full-strength team for the ODIs. As such, there will be players in the team who may get the opportunity to be a part of the Champions Trophy squad. For Morgan, it will be an excellent opportunity to play with the newcomers.
Morgan was selected for INR 2 crores by Kings XI Punjab. Previously, he has played for Royal Challengers Bangalore, KKR and Sunrisers Hyderabad. Apart from Morgan, Sam Billings and Jason Roy have also been selected by the ECB for the Ireland ODIs. Therefore, they will have to take a break from their IPL participation to do so. As for Chris Woakes, Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes, they have been dropped from the England squad for this tour so that they can focus on the game.
The Ireland ODI matches are scheduled for 5th and 7th May. Currently, Morgan is a part of the squad for the 3 ODI matches against the West Indies.
