Shikhar Dhawan Aiming For a Comeback at the Champions Trophy
Once a pillar of the Indian batting order, Shikhar Dhawan has fallen from grace since. However, the opener is aiming to make a comeback to the team and participate on the Champions Trophy.
Talking about his return, Shikhar Dhawan mentioned that he had around 3 months and three to four tournaments on hand to prepare for the ODI tournament in England. He felt that if he could do well in those tournaments, there would be an excellent chance for him to become a part of the squad.
2016 was not the best of years for Dhawan who struggled to make an impact on any of the matches he played. He was dropped from the Test series squad against England. Then the team went up against England in the ODI series. Dhawan was given another chance. However, he failed to make the most of it. He made only 1 in the first match and 11 in the next. He was not even given a chance in the final match as Ajinkya Rahane took his spot.
Dhawan is currently in the North Zone squad as he participates in the inter zonals for the Mushtaq Ali trophy. He is confident about his return to the team. He believes his biggest strength is his ability as an impact player. He understands he needs to score consistently to make a return to the team.
Meanwhile, Dhawan predicts that the Australians are going to find the conditions very trying in the four matches of the upcoming Test series in India.
