Who Will Be Playing As India Meets Pakistan in the Emerging Cup?
Ahead of the Champions Trophy 2017, India and Pakistan have an opportunity to face each other in the Emerging Cup. The Emerging Cup has been organized and the brainchild of the Asian Cricket Council.
The tournament will be featuring a total of 8 teams and is to be held in Bangladesh in March 2017. However, this tournament has been mainly designed for the Under 23 players. The countries participating in the tournament are Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan, United Arab Emirates, Afghanistan, Hong Kong and Nepal.
Now, four of these teams, namely India, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh and Pakistan, are fulltime members of the International Cricket Council. As a result, they have the option of having up to 4 senior players in their teams. The rest of the team must be under-23 in order to be eligible. As for the other countries, they can field their national teams in the tournament.
While India can get four of their senior players to play, the fact is that the team will be facing Australia in the Test series. As a result, they will not be available before March 25 which makes the task for the BCCI even harder. However, Dhoni is a possibility since he is not scheduled to play in any tournament before the Champions Trophy.
The cricketing history between India and Pakistan has always been an intense one. However, the two teams last went up against each other in the World Twenty20, 2016. The last bilateral series they played against on another was way back in 2013.
