Indian ODI Players Preparing For Champions Trophy 2017
Currently defending champions India is playing with Australia a four-test series in their home ground and will not play ODI till the Champions Trophy starts. Rest of the best players are lighting up the renowned Vijay Hazare Trophy ODI tournament. The presence of big players such as MS Dhoni, Shikhar Dhawan, Yuvraj Singh, Suresh Raina et all in domestic cricket is a rare opportunity and it’s sure to grab more eyeballs for the venue.
India’s chairman of selectors, MSK Prasad, showed his concern about the form of the openers in ODI cricket. He believed that domestic limited over cricket can help the players to get tuned up for the Champions Trophy.
Players like Dhawan aren’t a surety this time because of his poor form. He didn’t score well because of injuries. In his first ODI with England, he scored just 1 and followed it up with 11 runs in his next ODI. If he performs well in Vijay Hazare Trophy he might be in the race of the openers.
The middle order line up though seemed settled is not firm. Suresh Raina who plays in the middle order was ruled out of the ODI series against New Zealand because of his poor form. However, he was selected for the T20s. Players like Rishabh Pant and Ashish Nehra have shown the selectors that they can merit a place in the squad. The under 19 talents like Mumbai’s Prithvi Shaw and Tamil Nadu’s S. Radhakrishnan are in the pipeline to make their entry to list A debuts.
